Truth About BMI Reports

Every year, the Body Mass Index (BMI) of thousands of New York City school children is measured and reported through the Fitnessgram.

We created a pamphlet

The Truth about the Fitnessgram

To inform educators and parents about the drawbacks of the Fitnessgram

To provide other, healthier ways to talk to children about their bodies

The BMI not only unscientific but also harmful

School reported BMI creates a breeding ground for disordered eating, body insecurity and bullying

The risks and emotional harm that BMI testing in schools cause are greater than the benefits

Schools should be safe spaces for children, not institutions that police their bodies

Thank you! Nobody, especially children should be shamed for a non-existent reason – or for anything!
